When Is the Best Time to Cruise the Nile?

A season-by-season look at Egypt’s weather, crowds and fares so you choose the right month.

The best months at a glance

Aim for October through April. That is when Upper Egypt delivers warm, rainless, sunny days that suit long mornings among the temples. For the friendliest mix of pleasant weather and lighter crowds, target the shoulders: late October into November, or March into early April.

Winter: the high season (December to February)

These are the coolest, most popular months. Expect comfortable daytime highs of roughly 22 to 26 degrees Celsius in Luxor and Aswan, crisp evenings, and busy sites. Cabins sell out earliest around Christmas and New Year, so book well ahead.

Spring and autumn: the sweet spot

March, April, October and November pair warm, clear days with slightly thinner crowds. For many travellers this is the ideal window, balancing weather and value before late April begins to heat up.

Summer: hot but quiet (May to September)

Summer is genuinely hot in the south, often above 40 degrees Celsius, but the heat is dry, excursions are timed for the cool early morning, and the ship is air-conditioned with a sun-deck pool. It is also the cheapest, quietest season, which suits flexible travellers.

What about Ramadan?

Ramadan moves earlier each year and some local eateries shorten their daytime hours, but cruises sail as scheduled and your on-board dining and tours run normally. Evenings can be festive and atmospheric.

Then book early

Whatever month you pick, reserve ahead for the best cabins, whether on the four-day Osiris Odyssey or the eight-day Amun Adventure. Next, see how many nights to choose and the full Nile cruise guide.
