How Long Do You Need in Egypt?

Planning the right trip length, from a short cruise to a full Egypt grand tour.

How much time is enough?

For a first trip taking in both the river and the capital, plan on roughly a week to eleven days. That covers a guided Nile cruise plus the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum and the Grand Egyptian Museum. With two weeks you can add Alexandria or unwind by the Red Sea.

The cruise on its own: 4 to 8 days

If the Nile is your priority, a focused cruise is ideal: the Osiris Odyssey (4 days), the Horus Holiday (5 days) or the Amun Adventure (8 days). See how many nights to choose for the details.

Cruise and Cairo together

To pair the temples with the Pyramids, our 7-night Cairo and Nile cruise and 10-night Cairo and Nile cruise handle the flights, hotels and guiding from start to finish.

Going further: two weeks or more

With extra days, add the Mediterranean on the 14-day Cairo, Alexandria and Nile cruise, or finish on the coast with the 14-night Nile cruise and Hurghada package.

Match the trip to your time

A few days for the river, a week or more to add Cairo, or a fortnight to see Egypt from coast to temple. The best time to travel is the same throughout. Begin with the full Nile cruise guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a week enough for Egypt?

A week comfortably covers a short Nile cruise with a day or two in Cairo for the Pyramids and highlights. For a more relaxed pace including the museums, allow around eight to eleven days.

Cairo before or after the cruise?

Either works well. Our combined Cairo and Nile cruise packages arrange the internal flights and hotels in the right order, so the trip flows smoothly whichever way it runs.

Can I add the Red Sea or Alexandria?

Yes. The 14-day Cairo, Alexandria and Nile cruise adds Alexandria, while the 14-night package finishes with a beach stay in Hurghada on the Red Sea.
